McConnell’s Secret Weapons

Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Krysten Sinema (D-AZ)

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has continued to work hard in derailing any attempts by Democrats to get bills passed in the U.S. Senate. When he was majority leader he could just simply refuse to allow bills to be brought before the Senate and with a solid majority prevent passage of those that did make it to the floor for a vote.

But, now McConnell has to use other means to stop Democrats and he has the perfect secret weapons to do it.

Senators Joe Manchin and Krysten Sinema are two undercover Republicans in the Democratic Party. Described as Democratic centrists, these two politicians are thwarting efforts by Democrats.

Joe Manchin is the most public about his support of the Republicans in the Senate. He opposes doing away with the filibuster, which pleases McConnell, as well as standing in opposition to Senate Bill S.1, the For the People Act, that would set federal law protecting the rights of voters in America.

It seems that Manchin had an epiphany after the January 6th insurrection. In his “come to Jesus” moment he contends that he believed in bipartisanship to advance legislation in the Senate. He came to think that blocking out Republicans input on bills was not the way to bring healing to American politics. So, now he pushes for Democrats to include those poor Republicans and find value in what they espouse.

Never mind that those very same Republicans Manchin suddenly loves never cared about bipartisanship when they controlled the Senate and Trump was president. Never mind that Manchin sat in the Senate and watched Mitch McConnell rule over the chamber like he was some kind of god and treated the opposition like they were cockroaches infecting the Senate. Never mind that they backed every bit of Trump’s authoritarian rule and supported (and still support) Trump’s lies about the 2020 election.

Nope, Manchin doesn’t see any problem with overlooking the transgressions of the Republicans. He doesn’t need to since he sits in McConnell’s back pocket, bought and paid for. I can easily imagine McConnell dancing in his office at the good fortune of the Republicans to have Manchin as one of the roadblocks in the Senate.

The other roadblock, Krysten Sinema is just as bad, though she seems to keep a lower profile in her opposition to her own party. She, like Manchin, opposes doing away with the Senate filibuster rule. Again, like Manchin, the answer to the Senate’s problems is bipartisanship. Apparently she believes that’s what the country wants (Huffpo article).

Has Sinema paid any attention to what’s going on outside the ivory tower of the Senate? Has she not seen the white supremacist groups like the Proud Boys, Oath Keepers and such raising hell? Has she not seen right wingers blasting America about the southern border being overrun by those pesky “illegal” immigrants? Has she not seen the huge number of bills in Republican controlled states that are instituting laws to suppress voting in their states to insure Republicans maintain control of government. Has she not seen how the Republicans in her own state are carrying out an insane ballot audit to “prove” that the election was stolen from Trump?

She must spend her time watching reruns of Sesame Street while wearing rose colored glasses.

It’s clear that these two are Republicans in sheep’s clothing. Neither one of them has the courage to just come out and officially join the Republican Party. It’s clear to anyone with a brain that these two are more interested in obstructionism that bipartisanship. They’re as out of touch as the Republicans are in America.

There won’t be any healing currently or in the foreseeable future. Not as long as we have uncontrolled racism, cops murdering minorities, politicians suppressing minorities, hate towards any immigrants, propaganda masquerading as news, etc., there will be no healed America.

Until next time

Republicans, 99% Stupid!

And I can prove it.

Republicans are so far off the rails that the rest of us should consider banning them from political involvement due to their incapacity to use their brains for something other that soaking up conspiracy theories and outright lies. I will credit Donald Trump, he sure used his talent to spew propaganda to good effect. Joseph Goebbels would be so proud of him.

Republicans have become out of touch with reality. So many of them, both citizens and elected officials, have given up on using common sense, reasoning, and critical thinking. Instead they prefer to follow each other off the cliffs of sanity like good little lemmings. Since most Republicans would say I’m lying, I’ll prove my case.

First up we have Anthony Antonio, who according to a CNN article of his appearance on Chris Cuomo’s “Prime Time,” got caught up in the lies spewed on Fox News about the election being stolen from Donald Trump. “Foxitis” his attorney called it in court. He admits his participation in the January 6th insurrection/riot and takes full responsibility for it. His mea culpa sounds like German citizens after the end of World War Two saying they didn’t know of the evils of the Nazi regime.

His “excuse” for his behavior doesn’t hold water. He’s an adult and supposedly capable of thinking for himself, but he didn’t. Instead he argues he was led by the nose into the depths of the lies. While he now accepts responsibility for his actions, it should not sway the judge in his case to go easy on him. He tried, with a great many others, to take down the government.

Next is an article in Huffpost about the Republican Arizona state senator, Paul Boyer, who now regrets supporting the recount of the November 2020 election in Maricopa County. Apparently he now believes that the recount “makes us look like idiots.” Gee, why would anyone think that an “audit” of those ballots by Cyber Ninjas seem ridiculous? The audit is only being led by the Trump partisan CEO of the company, a company which has NO experience in ballot audits. An audit that hunted for watermarks on ballots that supposedly were printed up by Trump to show fraud in the voting. Also, hunting for ballots with bamboo in the paper to prove they were inserted into the election by the Chinese.

State Senator Boyer needs to explain to the voters in Maricopa County why he believed the lies that Donald Trump had votes stolen from him and given to Joe Biden. There were recounts and audits done by election officials that verified the findings that Joe Biden won the election. This sham audit that he supported seems to be saying that all the election officials, to include the Arizona Secretary of State and the Arizona Governor, were crooked operators in the first place.

Yes, I certainly agree with Senator Boyer, they look like idiots.

We all know, or should know, who House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is in America. If not, he’s a California Republican who is the House version of Mitch McConnell. Of late he and the other Republicans in the House have ginned up a vote to remove Representative Liz Cheney from her position in the Republican leadership (note: I don’t like Cheney either).

So, he sent a letter to all the House Republicans and something he said in that letter is eye-catching. In an MSNBC article report, “We are a big tent party,” McCarthy wrote. “We represent Americans of all backgrounds…. And unlike the left, we embrace free thought and debate.

“Free thought and debate.” If that were the truth Kevin, then why are you removing a member of the Republican House leadership for having “free thought” when she publicly called out Trump’s election lies and said Biden was the winner of the election and the rightful president? Umm, seems to me that there was no common sense or critical thinking on the hypocrisy of that statement in McCarthy’s letter. Idiots abound Kevin. Put on your dunce hat and go sit in the corner.

Then we have the certain Republican loving media personalities (who shall remain nameless) who are just as much fools as any I’ve already spoken about above. It just so happens that these particular idiots work at the Trump-loving Fox News. I’m speaking of the multiple personalities at Fox News who paraded out the story of the great American hamburger theft they spouted off about in April. They told the American public, mostly Republican dupes for Trump, that President Biden’s climate plan will force the reduction of the consumption of beef by Americans is coming to a McDonald’s near you.

Who failed to do some due diligence on this story? We know Fox News hates anything Biden’s doing as president, but to honestly believe, and report to America, that you’ll be limited to one hamburger a month to help save the climate is so stupid that the Fox personalities are in the same boat as the Republicans in the Arizona Senate. They clearly look like idiots.

Good work people. Fox News ended up having to make an on air retraction of this ridiculously asinine story. You can read all about it in this Media Matters article.

Need I give any more examples of the lunacy of Republicans? I mean, I could go on and talk about the nonsense that comes out of the mouths of QAnon nuts, Representatives Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene, Senator Ted Cruz, etc, etc, etc. But, why huh? If you haven’t gotten the idea by now of the crazy Republicans, you never will.

This is what you get with them. Do you really think they should have any positions “leading” this country?

The Nation’s Wreckage

Trump’s Shame!

Well, it’s been a while. I went dark, initially unintended and later by choice, when I spent two different periods hospitalized in late October and early November 2020. I was already at the point where I was sick and tired of the disaster of Trump and his administration. I did keep an eye on what occurred since the election, waiting for today now that President Joe Biden has replaced the, in my opinion, criminal Donald Trump.

The four years of Trump’s administration has been a train wreck unequaled by any period of U.S. history, to include the American Revolution. He and his followers no longer have a stranglehold on the nation. His Congressional Republicans have had power stripped from them, as it should be, for supporting and promoting all that Donald Trump did to America. Some of those Republicans insisted on continuing to find some way to keep Trump in office after he lost the election. Each one of them should be removed from office as they are unfit to serve. A few, like Senators Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz, need to be investigated for any criminal actions and if found, they should be arrested and tried. Even now some of Trump’s congressional lackeys remain faithful, like Marjorie Taylor Green of Georgia and Lauren Boebert of Colorado, both QAnon nuts, and continue spouting their nonsense as they worship a disgraced Trump.

Our Capitol was engulfed in a riotous insurrection by members of Trump’s band of ignorant racists and conspiracy believing fools. They were unable and unwilling to accept the election results. After being riled up and sent to the Capitol by Donald Trump, they attempted to stop our constitutional government from carrying out their lawful duties. These followers do nothing but whine about how the 74 million of them have had the election stolen from them. They demand Trump be given his rightful second term, that he “won” by a landslide. Never mind that over 80 million Americans voted for President Joe Biden. They don’t deserve to have their votes matter I guess. These “Americans” trashed the Capitol, causing the death of five people, including a Capitol Police officer. I’m thinking had the Capitol Police formed a line and opened fire things would have been different. After five or six fell to a flurry of bullets, the rest would turn and run as fast as their little legs could move in the opposite direction. Many likely peeing themselves as they ran. Luckily for them there were sympathizers among the Capitol Police who ushered them into the building and allowed them to run wild.

The real animals among Trump’s supporters, groups like the Oath Keepers, Proud Boys, and the generic white supremacists, have screamed loudly for their members to rise and start a civil war to remake America into their dreamed of Whites Only nation. They’ve lost access to social media for their fomenting of violence. Some, as with many other insurrectionists, have had their wake up call as the FBI arrived and arrested them for their criminal actions. Let them stand in court and be judged and to, hopefully, spend many years in prison for their attempted coup to save their twisted and mentally ill (or deranged) “leader” Donald Trump. Maybe they can request a cell next to Trump’s? Each of these groups are poster children for enacting a domestic terrorism law(s) to place them where they belong, outlawed and driven back under the rocks from which they squirmed out from under. The great majority of these lowlifes are as cowardly as Donald “Pathological Liar” Trump.

Yet, such law(s) would not be in the spirit of the U.S. Constitution’s First Amendment. Such law(s) would empower government to decide what organizations are to be labelled terrorist organizations. Imagine another administration of a Trump-like president using the law to silence opposition groups and persons. Americans can not, and should not, trust any government with such power. So, the nation must allow these “patriot” groups to exist and to be allowed to run their mouths. Should they cross the line into criminal speech, we must let law enforcement bring them before the bar of “justice” for punishment. But, this begs the question of whether or not we can trust law enforcement to do their job, something we haven’t been able to do throughout most of 2020.

Donald Trump couldn’t even handle attending the inauguration, instead he slunk out of town on Air Force One while he was still the President. Off to his digs in Palm Beach, Florida. There he will lick his wounds and, some believe, try to control the Republican Party. He told American he’d be back during his farewell speech before boarding Air Force One for his flight to flee Washington D.C. What he may be able to accomplish to that end is anyone’s guess. Certainly, as we have seen, there are plenty of Republicans in federal and state government willing to back his idiocy. The Republican Party is dead, yet they don’t know it or believe it. Even Trump has, or is, considering whether to set up a new party to compete against the Republican Party. Now that would be good, in my humble opinion. What better way to split the conservative voting in the country? His speech to CPAC was nothing more than a repeat of all his lies he has sold those believers in his views. Maybe the Republicanj party should be declared a domestic terrorist organization?

President Joe Biden has his work cut out for him. He has two years before the mid-term election in which to get his agenda in place. As with all presidential terms, the mid-term elections could flip Congress back to opposition control. Then, it’s the usual roadblocks to getting anything done. Both parties operate this way when the President is in the other party. At least he can undo Trump’s Executive Orders. That’s a good start, but with the pandemic still raging and there being a shortage of vaccines, work must focus on the COVID-19 pandemic, not only in America, but worldwide. Many third world nations are stuck depending on the first world nations to aid them in their fight to survive. Humanity demands that every able nation aids those lesser able nations in saving their populations. We will have to wait and see what happens. Beyond the pandemic itself, President Biden must act to aid those who have suffered and are suffering. Men, women, and families have lost their income, some their homes. Many more live on the streets of the country with little hope of help by states already stretched thin and running out of money. Over 500,000 Americans have paid with their lives, how many more will Joe Biden allow to die? How will he aid and protect those who are homeless, those who are so far behind in their rents that landlords are begging for an end to the eviction moratorium (which ios on the brink of happening), those who are food insecure even if they are lucky enough to have a job, and those in the country who have lost the hope for a better life? It’s only been through citizens who have grouped together to aid those in dire straits that the much less fortunate have some chance to get to tomorrow.

I expect in many ways we will see business as usual. The filthy rich will continue to get richer off the sweat of workers. The poor will continue their struggles for daily existence and those in the middle will be expected to pay the bill for getting the country back on it’s feet. I’d like to see changes, like the filthy rich being taxed heavily. I’d like to see corporations be taxed heavily as well. That could be done by just preventing corporations from having so many deductions that their tax bill is negligible. It is far past time these rich people and corporations pony up a fair share. Yet, I doubt the Democrats will have the spine to take on their super donors and corporations. Hell, we know they’re just conservatives under a different name.

In the end we just have to wait and see if all the wreckage is cleaned up. For the record, I didn’t vote for Biden. I’m a socialist, why would I vote for a conservative? I’d prefer, as I have said before, that the governmental system in the United States collapse and a true peoples democracy replace it so that human rights and equality are the absolute law of the land.

Until next time

We Are Not Finished

The road ahead of us is long, and the road behind us is even longer.

I’m writing this with the assumption that Joe Biden will actually make it into office – that an undemocratic power grab won’t take place and that we aren’t about to descend into an apocalyptic hellscape. I’m writing this with an awful lot of hope, but also an awful lot of expectations. I’ve seen so many people who align with the left, often with joyful tears streaming, talking about how “we’ve won.” I won’t delve into my pessimistic ideas about what’s actually going to happen between now and January; even considering the best, most democratic, most normal power transfer we can achieve – y’all, we have not won. Don’t get me wrong, I will be thrilled to watch a despotic maniac leave office. But this fight – the fight – is not over.

Kamala Harris has a deep and well-recorded history of disenfranchising marginalized communities when she has had power. Joe Biden is a pedophile whose political resume is rife with bad choices and cronyism. We must kick ourselves out of the “lesser evil” mentality – garden-variety systemic racism and old-normal police brutality cannot be acceptable conditions. That acceptance got us to this point in the first place. Who holds office next year will not erase the normalization of fascism as an ideology; will not level the economic playing field for hundreds of thousands of Americans living paycheck to paycheck or dying without food or shelter; will not resurrect the trans folks being murdered daily or protect the ones who yet haven’t been. I think that this concept that this was the victory, that this election was the battleground, is endemic to white cis middle-class liberalism. This fight did not begin with you or me, with Biden or Trump. And it will not end when we have decided we are satisfied. It ends when real equality is achieved.

Do not go back to brunch, do not return to your bubble of cat videos and mobile games, do not descend back into complacency. I know it’s exhausting to have had the diseases festering in American capitalist culture laid bare and not be able to cover them back up. But people are counting on you, on all of us; there is so much more work to be done. Be grateful we can do it in a marginally safer space under a new president, spread that joy and positivity far and wide – but do not forget.

“Look at a stone cutter hammering away at his rock, perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred-and-first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not the last blow that did it, but all that had gone before.” -Jacob Riis

To Judge or not to Judge

Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing for Amy Coney Barrett

I am watching the confirmation hearings for selecting Judge Amy Coney Barrett as the next member to the United States Supreme Court. What a waste of time even holding the hearings.

Democrats are trying to get the Judge to answer how she views different case outcomes or potential outcomes. The Judge keeps refusing to give any hints on how she may rule on any case. Okay, likely a good course. Especially if you don’t want to taint yourself by showing your true feelings on any aspect of law. Consider though that the idea any person can completely set aside their personal opinions and beliefs and rule on an aspect of the law impartially is suspect. I just can’t buy that they can.

Republicans spend their time throwing roses to the Judge, telling her how wonderful she is. They then spend time in pontificating on the political stand being taken by the Democrats on the Judiciary Committee. Of course they ask no questions about her views on the law, knowing she won’t provide an answer.

I’ve seen this more than once in my life. It hasn’t changed really. I also don’t care about the arguments made (by Democrats) of how this nomination is being rammed through this close to election day. The whole thing is theater. The Democrats would do the same thing if they had the chance. Neither side has any moral high ground to stand on. If Democrats controlled the Senate and refused to move forward, Republicans would be screaming foul. Six of one, half-dozen of another.

I am of the opinion that this whole process for selecting members of the Court should even exist? There is no fairness in these type of proceedings. The members of the Committee are not worried one damn bit about what the people may, or may not, want. How could they when the people haven’t been asked? In other words, the process is flawed and appointments to any federal court system are only the will of the Senate.

Justices can be impeached. Only one has, Justice Samuel Chase in 1804. The Senate did not convict Justice Chase, so he remained on the Supreme Court. With a lifetime appointment, federal judges and the SCOTUS Justices have a long reaching effects on the laws in the United States. The people can do nothing about any judge or Justice with regard to their acceptability to be on the courts and their tenure (short of amending the US Constitution). This is an area that should be changed.

Here’s an option that should be considered. Let the Senate have their power to bring a judge or justice to a federal court. But, that lifetime appointment should not be continued for the Appellate or Supreme Courts. Why not have their tenure voted upon by the people every decade after being placed on the bench? So, how can we vote on them all every ten years?

There are 9 Supreme Court Justices and 179 Appellate Courts judges. So 188 members of the judiciary that would have to be voted upon by the people every ten years. Not all would be voted on at the same time, as it would happen ten years from the appointment of each individual judge. The voting would occur in a national election cycle (2 or 4 years), with the judges placed into the closest election cycle for their initial retention vote. Let their record on the bench be the information used by the people to decide. If voted out, no judge could ever hold a seat on the federal courts ever again. This keeps the Senate’s partisanship from subverting the will of the voters.

Now, you can say this won’t work, but you’d be wrong. Many States have retention votes for State Supreme Court judges, so it can work just as well at the federal level. It would require voters to familiarize themselves with a judges record, or it could be that there would be groups that would speak to their records to inform the voting population. Either is fine, just as long as the judges are not allowed to campaign for keeping their job. I’ll grant that it is not a perfect system, but it sure seems better than a judge facing a Senate hearing and vote once in their career.

But, one would ask how that guarantees a judge’s impartiality in their rulings? I would answer that by asking how is impartiality guaranteed currently? No, don’t try to argue that if they’re not they can be impeached. I refer you to paragraph six above. We can not count on Congress, any more than we can with Presidential impeachments. Plus, why should we? If the People are the final authority on how we are ruled, then the People have the right to directly decide. Then, and only then, can we hold judges accountable for what rulings they make, instead of this question and non-answer back-and-forth in judiciary hearings in the Senate.

Take today for example. Judge Coney Barrett is assured a seat on the Supreme Court. On November 10th a case on the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act will come before the Court. Now Justice Coney Barrett will be on the Court and will be ruling with the other Justices on the case, unless of course she recuses herself (not very likely). If she votes to overturn and the law and it is overturned, then the votes of the people will reflect whether she is right or not. The people will know how overturning the law has affected them for ten years and may well decide her removal is the correct response. Otherwise, there is no penalty for what she, along with the other Justices, may end up doing to the people in the United States. There should be no hiding from the people by any of them.

The only other choice is completely overturning the US political and legal system and instituting something completely new. That would be my preference, but the great majority of the people in the US are still sheep willing to be led around by the politicians in Congress and the President. Apparently they haven’t been screwed over enough yet to get angry and toss the whole damn thing into the dump.

A Rant of Sorts

It makes me feel better

I started working on my musings of a hypothetical change to Socialism in America a few days ago. But, then I was interrupted by watching CNN and reading my internet news aggregator, and became distracted.

I have remained distracted and can’t get into the frame of mind to continue my musings. How can I when so much else is happening that should be holding everyone’s attention in the run up to the November 3rd election?

Are you sick and tired of the inept politicians of the “two” political parties and their sycophant followers? When did America get to the point to where they give up any independent thought and just follow along like sheeple? The issues mean nothing to the followers. The get told their respective leader will “fix” it all and that’s good enough for them. They don’t ask how or for any specifics that will reveal the truth of their leader’s plans. Instead, they go with the “just trust me” attitude projected at them.

I know that a large number of Americans don’t give a damn about politics until it’s time to elect a new President. The party affiliated don’t even listen to all the politicking going on before the election. They don’t need to since they’re mostly party line voters. They exercise their right to vote and immediately return to tuning it all out until the next election.

What these very followers do is fail their countrymen and countrywomen by abrogating their duty to work to make the Republic the nation it should be. These “silent” Americans are the very people who bring the divisiveness to the United States of America. They are too blame for not stopping the destruction of the country by the obscene rich and their corporations of destruction.

There are those of us in this country that are trying to overturn this ugliness called Capitalism, with it’s subordinate political structure to keep everything in place so that they can continue their quests for mega-riches and power over the rest of society. You, who sit on your asses in your oblivious life, caring not one bit for the hell all around you, allow this to happen.

You people are responsible for the suffering of the people. You people are responsible for allowing repressive leaders to rule over us all with disdain, laughing at us for our ineptitude. You people are responsible for the elite you allow to continue stealing the resources of the nation. You people are responsible for making the people poor, sick, tired, hungry, and mistreated. You people are responsible for allowing the continuing of centuries of racist hate that flows through America.

You people, you silent Americans, are responsible for condemning America to become a third-world country. You people are responsible for standing in the way of what is truly life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

This America has had it’s chance. You people have had you chances. It’s no longer your right to interfere with the changes that must be made.

Stand with those fighting for a new America, or get run over and left behind. It’s your choice Silent America.

BLM Violence

Is it Bad or Necessary?

I strongly support the Black Lives Matter movement in the United States. There has been enough systemic racism against Black Americans and now BLM is holding the federal and state government’s feet to the fire in demanding an end to this ignorance and hate against them and all people of color. Only White America can bring and end to it all or continue to be the roadblock to prevent equal rights and treatment to BIPOC America!

In a Time online article, “more than 93%—have been peaceful” in a review of BLM protests by Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (ACLED). Over 7,750 BLM protests were reviewed by ACLED to the percentage of violence at the different protests.

But, is “peaceful” how Americans see the protests? From the Time article, “ACLED highlights a recent Morning Consult poll in which 42% of respondents believe “most protesters (associated with the BLM movement) are trying to incite violence or destroy property.” Is violence, whether by BLM, the authorities, or white supremacist groups, actually worthwhile to gain White America’s support for the end to racism in America?

In a USA Today online article is showing how support for BLM is falling due to violence at their protests. It appears to me that BLM gets the blame even when the violence was from the authorities or other groups. From the article, a “Civiqs tracking poll is particularly interesting for understanding the dynamics at play. Net approval for the Black Lives Matter movement peaked back on June 3 and has fallen sharply since.” Will this decline in approval give the government and Donald Trump a stronger belief that more violent force can be used against BLM protestors participating in peaceful protests?

President Trump, with the public support of his political appointees, will continue to cast protestors as thugs and anarchists in order to inflame voters into believing that all protests are violent and that only he can bring an end to the violence. He wants votes, so he will cast his opponent as being behind the protests by any means necessary. Unfortunately, Trump seems to be winning the people over in how they see the BLM movement.

As to the violence, it’s been necessary anytime a country has gone through a revolutionary change of it’s form of government. Good examples are the French Revolution (1789 – 1799) and the American Revolutionary War (1775 – 1783). The first overthrew the French Monarchy and the second overthrew the British Monarchy’s control of the 13 colonies. Violent revolutions and revolts have occurred from present back through c. 2730 BC. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that the protests are anything less than demanding revolutionary change to government.

Many Americans are supporting the demands for new government. These Americans are called Socialists and Communists by anyone to their right politically, including Democrats. Socialists and Communists believe Capitalism and the current governmental system are the oppressors of people and human rights and that it must all be completely changed to attain equality in all things for all the people. That means violence will occur. Unless America gets behind the movement for change and equality, more blood will be shed. We will not apologize for it and know that White America can bring it to an end, if they want to.

Human Rights & Bad Politics in America

It’s Right in Front of Our Faces

Before I get into the subject of this post I need to clearly state my political beliefs for transparency. In my 20’s and most of my 30’s my politics aligned with each party at different periods. In my late 30’s I became discouraged with either party’s politics and became an unaffiliated Independent. I exercised my vote for the issues or politicians I thought as the best of the available choices. In my mid 50’s I started changing my beliefs and began to shift my views to the left and now, at 60, I am at the far left. That means that Conservatives, Republicans, Moderates, Independents, Democrats, Liberals, and Progressives are all to the right of my stance. The Republican & Democratic parties are no different from each other. Call me a leftist, an extreme leftist, a Socialist, a Marxist, or a Communist if you need a label, but to me, I am simply a person who believes that the current political and social systems in America are not “for the people” and need to radically change to become a true democratic party of the people and that brings true equality and treatment for all people. With this now clear, I will speak to the subject of the post title.

It’s 2020, an election year and likely an election that will change little for the good of the people of America. When I say “the people of America” I mean citizens, legal residents, people with Visas, and all undocumented people in the country.

America has a long and dark history of systemic racism. From slavery to the 19th Century Chinese Exclusion Act to the immigration limitation placed on different European cultures to Jim Crow and right up to today’s exclusions initiated by Donald Trump of Hispanic people and Muslims. It’s a pattern that clearly states the America is for Whites only. All others are only tolerated and discriminated against. The two political parties have enforced these beliefs for the entire existence of each party. Republicans and Democrats have held, and still do hold, a lock on almost 100% of the political offices at all levels of government in America. They both control the political agendas, blocking outsider influences (which are typically in the interests of common people) on the laws and rules in the country.

Immigration:

America is a nation founded on immigration. The nation would be better off if all immigration restrictions were eliminated.

Donald Trump is, many would say, strong on immigration control. He began his first term, after campaigning on “illegal” immigrants in some of the most racist and bigoted terms and building more of the wall located on our southern border. He also campaigned using fearmongering to whites about “illegal” immigration destroying our country. Also, Trump sold America a bill of goods by saying the wall would all be paid for by Mexico (not at all true).

Further, Trump also instituted the forced separation of children from their parents/guardians when they were caught as “illegal” immigrants inside US borders. The children were then placed in “detention” camps, as the government calls them, and left to get by on their own. There, detainees experience overcrowding, as well as reports of inadequate food provisions & medical care, no hygiene items, lack of sleeping materials, lack of supplies to care for very young children, etc. Plus, with the pandemic, these children are suffering COVID-19 illness. The only thing worse that Donald Trump could do to these children would be to exterminate them in gas chambers and cremating the remains. Yes, the comparison with Nazis is intended.

ICE isn’t even able to account for the whereabouts of all the children. Some 1500 have gone “missing” and ICE doesn’t seem to know where they are! Imagine a child of yours being forcibly taken from you and then “lost” by the authorities. How would you react? This lack of humanity is troubling at the least.

But, it isn’t only children being abused by Trump’s ICE. In a detention facility in Florida, Muslim detainees have been served meals containing pork and pork products. Muslim beliefs require abstaining from eating pork and even touching pork, just like adherents of Judaism. This clearly violates the 14th Amendment, Section 1, that provides for equal treatment for all under the law. But, Trump doesn’t care. In his mind they shouldn’t have entered the US “illegally.”

Now, Democrats have been “outraged” over some of these issues, going so far as demanding that ICE be abolished. It may sound good, but it is being done while the fact is that Barack Obama’s administration held unaccompanied children in, as Joe Biden referred to them, cages. Yet, 2020 Candidate Biden falsely claimed otherwise. If the Democrats felt so strongly on the issue, why did they not abolish the immigration services when they held the White House and majorities in the House of Representatives and the Senate? Instead, they are just as culpable as Republicans.

In fairness, the Obama Administration made changes to US immigration policies. The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Program being one. The program allowed for “some individuals with unlawful presence in the United States after being brought to the country as children to receive a renewable two-year period of deferred action from deportation and become eligible for a work permit in the U.S.”

Likely Biden, if elected, would shift the focus off Trump’s current immigration policies. There should be no laws restricting immigration to the United States. No human being should be considered to be here “illegally.” However, there would be no action by the Democrats to end all immigration laws and actions against anyone entering America.

Donald Trump’s immigration “policies”, using ICE like Nazi Brown Shirts to terrorize non-resident undocumented minorities, is appalling. The fact that so many Americans stand with Trump policies brings shame to the rest of us and is just one thing that lowers the standing of America to the nations of the world.

America, tear down that wall and welcome all who come to America!

Capitalism:

Capitalism is defined by Merriam-Webster as, “an economic system characterized by private or corporate ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined by private decision, and by prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly by competition in a free market”

Capitalism can be better defined as an economic system in which the great majority labor for minimal compensation, while the very few grow extremely rich off of that labor (John Broge, 2020). The laborer has little to no input on the generation of products and no input on the division of the profits. In short, slavery. Further, capitalism denies all people of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Capitalism prevents millions from life, where “life” is defined as the rights one is entitled to just for being alive. I’m not talking about the US Constitution Bill of Rights either. You, as a human being, have rights above any that are granted by the state. Without these rights, life can be extremely difficult. Without these rights there can be no liberty or the pursuit of happiness. I’ll cover these rights one at a time, in no particular order.

Food Security:

No human can live without food, but many face daily food insecurity. Food insecurity is defined as “a lack of available financial resources for food at the household level.” The result of this is hunger, which is “a personal, physical sensation of discomfort” (Feeding America).

In 2018 that meant that, “37 million Americans, including more than 11 million children,” were food insecure according to the Feed America article referenced above. In perspective, those 37 million people equate to almost the complete population of California, the most populated US State, in 2019! No one should ever have to be concerned that they have insufficient nutritious food to sustain their lives without hunger. There is absolutely no excuse for this in America, a nation considered one of the world’s breadbaskets. Yet, it is a sad fact.

I know the feelings of hunger from food insecurity as a child, my parents struggled at different times to put food on the table. I understood it as a young adult when I didn’t earn enough to feed my child, my wife, and myself. I skipped meals so that there was enough for the two of them. It strikes hard at your self-worth when you struggle like that. Maybe you’ve faced hunger and food insecurity in your life at some time. If so, I’m sorry you had to go through such a time.

Both parties supposedly want to see the end of food insecurity, but the government programs that have come from Republican or Democratic administrations are inadequate. If they were sufficient there wouldn’t be 37 million people facing food insecurity.

Plentiful food, healthy food, is a right of all human beings. It shouldn’t cost a person so much as a dime either. It’s time this wrong be righted in America and, ultimately, the world. Just don’t count on the two parties to make it happen. They both support capitalism and capitalism is indifferent to your suffering.

Housing:

Do you enjoy the home you live in? If so, that’s great for you, but in 2019 there were almost 600,000 people homeless in America. Many more Americans live in substandard housing or spend more than 30% of their income, the considered maximum percentage of income, on housing.

We have people living on the streets, many times harassed by the public and police. There are local governments across the country that have enacted municipal laws to keep the homeless off their streets and out of sight. It’s an “out of sight, out of mind” syndrome that people can use to choose to ignore homelessness in their cities. That is nothing more than harassment against a segment of society left out in the cold. There are shelters, but not enough and they restrict, for the most part, the use of the shelter on a first-come, first-served basis. Those using the shelters normally have to leave in the morning. They may be too late in the day when the shelters reopen to get a spot for the night.

Many millions of people live in substandard housing, not by choice, but by circumstance. They are in poverty in many, many cases and can’t afford better housing. They may live in metropolitan inner-city public housing projects that the local government claims they haven’t got the funding to keep the housing standards up, or so they claim. Many live in privately owned housing buildings, with slumlords who won’t spend any more money than they have to in order to keep the housing functioning. These slumlords don’t care about the poor conditions, they’re interested only in the money they make. Good capitalist business people, no? NO! Most of these public and private projects are in economically expensive cities, where the cost of housing traps people.

I could go on, but why? You should get the picture already. If you don’t, you are a cold, heartless person. Imagine if you had to live in a housing unit of some type that had constant plumbing, heating, or structural issues. Housing that may have unresolved rodent or insect infestations, or have crime rates that make the housing unsafe. Imagine if you had to raise children in one. There is no reason that any human being has to be without decent and well maintained housing.

In 2019 there were 1.5 million vacant homes and condominiums in the US. That is more than enough to house the homeless and some of the people in substandard housing. The government should be insuring that more decent housing is built for the rest of the people stuck in substandard housing. It is society’s responsibility to compel government to provide every person decent housing.

Both political parties have not brought widespread and sustained improvement to homelessness or substandard housing. How much of the billions in foreign and military aid from the US could be better spent providing proper housing to people in the United States? How much of the Defense Department spending on US forces overseas could be used? How much of the federal dollars that have been spent by both parties on immigration agencies, enforcement, and the border wall could have been better spent on decent housing for all people?

It is just another right of the people that is violated daily by government.

It will be no better in a Trump second term or a Biden first term.

Unemployment / Underemployment:

We can be a nation without unemployment and underemployment. It requires a different economic system, one where capitalism doesn’t exist.

We all understand the definition of unemployment, it simply means having no job. Underemployment is not having “a job that doesn’t put their education, experience or training to work, or they are working part-time when they’d rather have a full-time job”

In September of 2019 there were 5.8 million people unemployed in the US, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. In April 2020, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, more than 28 million people were unemployed. From the same source chart, as of July 2020, the number of unemployed has fallen to under 17 million people.

Underemployment is always an issue. When a person is working at a job that does not utilize the person’s skills and experience, then that person is underemployed. They may be only working part-time jobs due to poor economic conditions, like a pandemic for instance. They may not make enough in wages to maintain health insurance or to maintain a safe and stable household for themselves and their family.

If every person was provided with universal basic income by the government people would be in a better position “to cover the basic cost of living and provide financial security.” You can read more about the pros and cons of Universal Basic Income (UBI) at the provided link. There are different options on how to fund UBI, whether it’s taxing society, or raising taxes on the very wealthy or corporations. Keep in mind UBI is a monthly payment over and above employment income.

I believe that UBI payments should not be taxed by the government. Further, workers should have seats at the company or corporate boardroom table to involve workers in the operational programs and plans. No company, corporation, or business can function without the labor of the workers. Owners and shareholders earn wealth off of that labor, so the workforce should share in the wealth rewards from their labor too. Hoarding the wealth rewards to the few, equals the class suppression of the workers. Capitalism drives the economic car to the detriment of the many and the enrichment of the few. Capitalism creates misery and death for the masses, while the wealthy elite live pampered lives.

Both political parties are involved in the suppression of the workers. The federal minimum wage is set by Congress. Currently the federal minimum wage stands at $7.25 per hour, where it has been since May 2007. Do you think you can live on $7.25 per hour? That’s only $580 every two weeks, before taxes and any other deductions. “No way” you think, that’s not enough to live on. You’re right, it’s not. Now, a fair number of states have set the minimum wage for their state. It’s more, but is it enough? It might be, depending on the economic cost of where you live. I’d be skeptical though.

An employer must pay the higher of the two minimum wages, but there are exceptions to when employers have to pay minimum wage. The most common exemption is for bartenders and food servers. They can be paid a much lower rate, as low as a couple of dollars per hour, since the worker earns tips. The tips are considered to make up the difference in hourly earnings. Now, we all know, or should know, that tips earned varies a great deal. I was a bartender for a while when I was younger and the tips I made didn’t normally make up the difference. To my thinking, tips should not be considered in the wage earned. It’s a “bonus” for doing a great job in serving customers, which in turn likely increases the business of the employer.

There has been a lot of political hay made about increasing the federal minimum wage to $15.00 per hour (some States are already increasing minimum wages to the same level, over time). Well, sounds really good. That makes a minimum wage worker earnings of $1200.00 every two weeks, before taxes. But, depending on where you live, it may or may not be a living wage. Consider living in New York City versus St Louis. A one bedroom apartment costs from $2018.00 to $3313.00 in NYC, compared to $1076.00 in St Louis. So it comes down to the costs of living wherever you call home.

In the end, the political parties have the most guilt burden in this class separated employment and earning opportunities. By allowing the continuation of a unjust economic system at the expense of the people, the parties show their allegiance to the wealthiest segments of society.

Every person has the right to having living wages provided to them. To get this the current economic and political systems must be dismantled completely and new systems put in place.

Healthcare:

Every individual in the country has the right to not be denied proper healthcare!

In the US, people are dying from the lack of proper healthcare. For whatever reason, people can’t get healthcare. They may have no insurance or the health insurance company refuses to pay out for whatever treatment medical providers deem necessary to deal with your medical problem.

It’s capitalism and politicians who keep you from getting and staying healthy. You may not be able to afford the monthly payment the insurance company wants to charge for your coverage. Your employer may only offer very restricted healthcare insurance programs in order to keep their costs down or your employer may not even offer healthcare insurance at all. If Donald Trump has his way, insurance companies will be allowed to go back to the time in America that they could deny you coverage because of a preexisting condition or charge you higher rates to cover you because of that preexisting condition.

In 2018, over 27 million Americans had no health insurance, according to an article at policyadvice.net. I would expect that millions more have lost healthcare coverage as a result of the economic impact caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. We must also realize that undocumented immigrants are locked out of government healthcare options (Medicare, Medicaid, etc) because the are in the country “illegally.” Many of them work, being exploited by their employers, for low wages. They can’t afford private health insurance.

People who have no health insurance and become ill, end up under a pile of medical debt they can not pay. The more care they need, the greater the medical debt piles up. Eventually, you start hearing from, and being harassed by, debt collectors. They’ll threaten court action if you won’t pay them. If you do pay them, usually over time, you’ll have to short some other area of your monthly expenses to do so. It’s crushing to try and juggle financial debt. I know because my wife and have had to do just that. I’m still dealing with it.

“Wait a minute,” you say, “what about Obamacare?” Well, yes, President Obama was able to get the Affordable Care Act (ACA) passed by Congress and he signed it into law. But, opening healthcare “exchanges” and requiring all Americans to have health insurance (and penalizing people for not having insurance) doesn’t mean people can afford insurance. Donald Trump, with the support of Congressional Republicans, is doing everything he can to destroy the ACA. He says Republicans will have a better plan to replace the ACA with, though no plan has been brought to the public as of yet. Even with the ACA, millions will continue to be uninsured.

The call has arisen, prominently from Senator Bernie Sanders during his run for the Presidency, that “Medicare for All” should and must be implemented to provide health insurance to every person in the United States. There has been loud dissent to this idea by the conservative right and resistance by Democrats too. They don’t want then end of private insurance, which “Medicare for All” would do. I admit, initially I was against the idea as well. My reason? After years of health insurance programs that don’t cover enough, our family finally has a plan we can afford and that covers almost all of the costs we are charged to deal with my chronic medical issues, as well as my wife and daughter’s medical problems.

I’ve come to realize my mistake in outright opposing “Medicare for All.” I have come to accept that it would be a good plan for America, but with one modification. Private health insurance should still be available to those who wish to utilize it. Everyone would still pay their share of the costs of “Medicare for All” still, so the program could be properly funded. Plus, if someone loses private coverage they could immediately use “Medicare for All” as any other American can. Make no mistake though, private medical insurance would be restricted on costs to the insured and medical providers.

Now, if we can either change the style of government, or in the meantime compel the political parties work together to improve healthcare coverage for all people, we should be able to see that no person ever again loses their right to quality healthcare.

Just one more reason Capitalism must be removed as our economic system in America.

Education:

Schools are instrumental to society. People know that the role of schools is to educate children so they have an education level giving them the ability to participate in life and improve their ability to function in society. Yet, our schools are not equal in being able to provide education.

According to an Economic Policy Institute study in 2017, “Extensive research has conclusively demonstrated that children’s social class is one of the most significant predictors—if not the single most significant predictor—of their educational success. Moreover, it is increasingly apparent that performance gaps by social class take root in the earliest years of children’s lives and fail to narrow in the years that follow. That is, children who start behind stay behind—they are rarely able to make up the lost ground.”

Just look at the difference in funding of school districts in America. You will see a range of funding to individual schools, which directly relates to the socioeconomic status of the school’s students. A 2020 Public School Review article states that, “approximately 48 percent of a school’s budget comes from state resources, including income taxes, sales tax, and fees. Another 44 percent is contributed locally, primarily through the property taxes of homeowners in the area. The last eight percent of the public education budget comes from federal sources, with an emphasis on grants for specific programs and services for students that need them.”

Schools located in affluent districts are able to provide better pay for teachers and staff, they can afford basic and luxury educational materials, they can afford the costs of technology (buying students laptops for example). Lower income districts don’t have the funding to compete with the affluent districts.

Again, from the Public School Review article, “Since schools must provide the basics, including heat, electricity and transportation, cuts that must be done are frequently taken from the classroom. This means fewer programs for students and larger class sizes that can create obstacles to student success.”

Our children are our most important resource and their education is a priority we cannot ignore. Every human being is entitled to an education without restrictions, from kindergarten through 12th grade and up to a four year college bachelors degree. It should all be free! The K-12 schools must be of equal quality, rich versus poor should not exist in the educational system. A four year college degree must be considered the teaching period to provide advanced skill opportunities. Students should not have to take out school loans to attend college, then be burdened with repaying these loans once they have graduated.

If we want successful generations, then we must properly educate them and provide the opportunity to carry-on and improve our society.

Neither Republicans or Democrats have fixed the education system and they’ve had more than enough chances to do so. Instead, Donald Trump and the Republicans insist on creating greater divide between the rich and poor students by pushing for public funding of private schools. Democrats want to throw more money at the system, without providing reform to ensure equality in education.

The human right tof a quality education is not being given to anyone. Equality of education has never existed. It is our responsibility to remove the roadblocks and create quality and equality in education for all. To do this, the political system must be completely changed and capitalism, overthrown.

These are your rights as a human. They are not, as I stated in the opening, any right the state has to grant you. They are yours by right of birth. All of the rights outlined in this post should be yours so that you may have life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Are Republicans Destroying their Party?

We Can Certainly Hope They Are.

It seems like every day we find ourselves learning about the latest act of stupidity by the Republican party politicians, political wannabes, celebrities, the President, and others. It is to the point where we must consider if these conservatives are destroying their party. It’s worth looking at and deciding for ourselves. Whether it’s Trump’s lies, McConnell’s intransigence, Coronavirus minimizers and deniers, QAnon conspiracy theory believers, and general pot stirring by Republicans, there’s a little something for everybody’s daily consumption of media stories.

It would all be ridiculously funny if it wasn’t a serious view of how the Republican’s attempt to maintain their hold on Congress and the Presidency. It’s dangerous to just laugh off the things the Republicans are trying to do. Especially when it comes to Donald Trump and his wet dreams of enacting his fascist dynasty to control the country under his authoritarian dictatorship.

We all have heard Trump on his lack of concern about the coronavirus, telling the country on more than one occasion how it will just “go away” at some point. He keeps around him plenty of people who publicly support his beliefs and ignores the experts on the pandemic. He cares not at all of how many contract and die from the virus. This is simply because he is a sociopath, as well as being so egotistical that all he wants are constant words of praise reinforcing his delusions. But, there are other things he is doing as well.

Just yesterday Trump admitted that he is sabotaging the US Postal Service to screw up mail-in balloting, harming the 2020 elections. In a Vice.com article Trump is reported to have said, “They need that money in order to make the Post Office work so it can take all of these millions and millions of ballots. But if they don’t get those two items, that means you can’t have universal mail-in voting, because they’re not equipped to have it.” His Postmaster General, who he has in his back pocket like so many other Administration members, has brought turmoil to the USPS, issuing new rules and procedures to slow down mail delivery. The Postmaster General, Louis Dejoy, has even ordered the removal of sorting machines at mail distribution centers according to a businessinsider.com story This will significantly slow down mail delivery even more, including election ballots.

Then we have Senator Mitch McConnell, Senate Majority Leader, trying to save his hold on his Senate seat at the same time he’s intentionally hurting Americans. He has washed his hands of any further work trying to work out a deal with Democrats to approve a new coronavirus bill. He’s leaving it up to the Trump Administration to negotiate an acceptable bill. With Americans losing the extra $600 unemployment payments, McConnell is causing Americans to be unable to keep their homes, feed their families, to obtain medical care, and just live day-to-day. As I wrote in my “Open Letter to the Filthy Rich” post, 17 – 28 million people are under threat of eviction now that the eviction moratorium has ended. McConnell has also made it clear that no new relief bill will be brought up for a vote if it does not contain language protecting businesses from being sued by employees who contract COVID-19 at work. Make no mistake, McConnell has the blood of innocents on his hands. But, lets move on to the next election issue.

Hopefully you have heard of QAnon and their conspiracy theory. I’ll just provide a small recap. From wbur.com, “QAnon is a far-right conspiracy theory and loosely organized network centered around the belief that the U.S. is controlled by a cabal of child sex trafficking, Democratic elites hell-bent on bringing down President Trump. Followers believe these elites, led by Dr. Anthony Fauci, have gone so far as to manufacture the coronavirus to bring Trump down. They heed cryptic online dispatches of someone named Q who’s anonymous — hence QAnon — who claims the highest government security clearance.

It sounds extremely ridiculous doesn’t it? Well, there are a number of Republican candidates for Congress who are believers or followers of QAnon. Marjorie Taylor Green won her runoff election to be the Republican candidate in Georgia’s 14th Congressional District and is expected to win in November. She has made videos stating her support for QAnon and she has made racist statements in videos as well. While there are Republicans who have repudiated her belief and her racism, it isn’t enough. Besides her, there are 10 or more other candidates who are QAnon followers – all Republicans running for Congress this year. (Sarcasm alert) Any who win their races can go to Congress and set up the QAnon Caucus. These believers need to be ridiculed publicly for their idiotic beliefs. Not one of them is fit to be a member of Congress in my opinion.

Next, we pull from the greatest hits collection in a redux of birtherism. It’s already being proclaimed that Senator Kamala Harris is not eligible to be President or Vice President because her parents were not legal residents when Kamala was born in Oakland, California in 1964. This is evidence that many people haven’t read, or can’t comprehend, the US Constitution. There is no requirement that a candidate’s parents must be legal residents. The candidate must have been born in the United States, which Senator Harris was. If you don’t believe me, go read Article 2, Section 1 of the Constitution. Hang on, I’ll help you out. Article 2, Section 1 states:

No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

Now, facts probably won’t stand with people who want to believe a lie, especially since they elected the biggest liar in America. The political right gave no peace to Barack Obama, why should it be any different for Kamala Harris. It’s just a tactic to confuse the gullible and maintain their votes for party candidates.

It’s like the Trump’s moves in sending federal agencies into Portland, OR, to clamp down on protestors considered to be anarchists, antifa radicals (there being no antifa organization), and domestic terrorists. I wrote about Portland in my post “The Secret Police” back in July. No one can forget the nightly scenes of the brutality dished out by these federal storm troopers against the protestors, while they “protected” the federal courthouse. Republicans stood behind the actions taken by Trump. Eventually federal agencies were dispatched to other cities across America to spread more of Donald Trump’s law and order brutality.

Nothing will likely change the course the Republicans are taking on their journey to the ballot box in November. However, what Republicans aren’t considering is that even if they survive the election this year there is what occurs beyond 2020. They are making more enemies than friends with their foolishness and disregard for our society. Many people who voted for him in 2016 won’t be voting for Trump in 2020. As an article on theguardian.com reported, Kevin, a Arizona pastor and lifelong Republican voted for Trump, but now states, “I’ve seen how he has tried to divide our country and that is not something I want, nor what our country should have … This man is an absolute danger to our country.” He is not the only Republican who won’t vote for Trump again.

These beliefs and behaviors appear to be eating the Republican Party from the inside out. But, the deterioration of the Republican Party will allow America to radically change and become a nation without inequality and hatred, provided we rise to the challenge. At the minimum, it may allow the breaking of the two party stranglehold on the American government.

We have no idea of what foolishness by Republicans may be reported tomorrow. It’s clear to me how the Republican Party is pulling itself apart. Tomorrow could be the day it implodes.

Until next time,

What’s Ailing America?

It’s not just one thing

What will history say about the America of 2020? I doubt it will show the country as a shining light on the path of leadership by the supposed most powerful nation in the world. To me, it is more likely that historians will say that America was a sad failure. That seems to be all that the current government and its leadership can accomplish – failure.

At a time when there is a world pandemic striking hard at countries worldwide, a pandemic here in America that has caused over 140,000 deaths, a pandemic that caused millions to become unemployed due to the necessary shutdowns in states in order to try to mitigate the spread of the virus, a pandemic that has not stopped national outrage and protests against police brutality and systemic racism, and a pandemic with no national leadership, who do Americans turn to for help?

Political Ailments

President Donald Trump is responsible for so many dying. He has consistently undermined the steps being taken by states to contain the virus. Worse, Donald Trump feels no guilt, like every sociopath, and takes no responsibility for anything even remotely considered a negative, like coronavirus testing.

Lets be clear, President Donald J. Trump has built his administration up as being the most ineffective and inept administration in the history of America. I’ll show you why I say this.

He is a science denier when talking about climate change or the coronavirus, insisting that he knows better. As results show, quite clearly, Donald Trump doesn’t know better. Plus, I doubt he even cares.

He has shown his disregard for children of immigrants, called illegal immigrants by Trump, and locked them up in “detention centers” under horrible overcrowding and health conditions. “Detention camps” are not the words I would use to describe these facilities. They are concentration camps, defined as “a camp in which people are detained or confined, usually under harsh conditions and without regard to legal norms of arrest and imprisonment that are acceptable in a constitutional democracy.” It seems this is no longer a newsworthy issue, its been overshadowed.

On May 25th of this year Minneapolis police arrested and murdered George Floyd, a Black American suspected of passing a counterfeit $20 bill at a store. Ex-officer Derek Chauvin knelt on Mr Floyd’s neck for almost nine minutes, eventually killing Mr Floyd.

The murder of Mr Floyd evoked nationwide protests across America over his death and the systemic racism in America. The vandalism and rioting in some of the protests has resulted in further police brutality and excessive use of force. Trump has called the protestors “thugs.” The protests have been led by the Black Lives Matter (BLM) group, with White Americans supporting BLM, rather than leading, as it should be.

President Donald Trump, “attacked the Black Lives Matter movement, calling the rallying cry a ‘symbol of hate.'” Contrast this with the fact that while Trump has condemned the extreme right at times, he panders to his base by continuing his racist statements and beliefs (on the Confederate battle flag, Confederate statues, and Confederate names of military bases as examples).

Will Donald Trump be elected to a second term? Only time will tell. But, Donald Trump isn’t wasting any time in setting up his straw man should he lose to Joe Biden. He’s back to putting out, without any supporting evidence, his claim’s that voting by mail is ripe for fraud and will rig the election.

So, what is Donald Trump’s goal? Simply put, Trump is setting the stage to deny his loss to Joe Biden and illegally attempt to hold on to power. Now, if all the government officials live up to their oath to the US Constitution, Donald Trump will be forcibly removed from the White House. Joe Biden would be President and life will go on in America. Or will it?

We’ll back up just a touch to the ongoing protests in America. George Floyd’s murder was the straw that broke the camel’s back, resulting in the wide spread protests led by BLM. Black people (and other people of color) are tired of the lack of equality and are fighting for a new America. There is violence occurring at these protests not only from protestors, but from police as well.

The ongoing protests by the “thugs,” as they are labelled by Donald Trump, have brought Trump to the point where he announced that he would send in federal agencies to quell the ongoing rioting and protests. He kept his word, sending in Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agencies to Portland, OR. The U.S. Marshal’s Special Operations Group and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Border Patrol Tactical Unit in Portland are wearing military style camouflage uniforms that have no agency identifiers or name tags visible. All that can be seen are patches on their tactical vests of the word “Police.” These federal agents have been recorded driving up in unmarked minivans, jumping out and taking individuals into custody without stating the person is under arrest. The “suspect” is handcuffed and hustled over to the minivan and driven away from the scene of their kidnapping.

Some of those snatched off the streets, Gestapo style, have been charged with offenses and some have not. Those not charged were eventually released. This behavior by federal agents is as unconstitutional as you can get. So, one shouldn’t overlook these incidents. This is one reason why the founders of the US wrote the Second Amendment! Please don’t think this is an isolated series of incidents. Donald Trump has ordered 150 agents of DHS’ Homeland Security Investigations agents to Chicago in the near future.

Hopefully everyone knows what doing this is called? I can tell you it isn’t democracy in any form. It’s fascism. A person could surmise that this is Trump’s way of testing to see what he can get away with should he lose the election this November. Will America sit still, or will there be hell to pay.

These intrusions into American cities by federal agents won’t silence the protests. If anything, they will act as gasoline and ignite more violence and rioting. Donald Trump has made a tactical error it would seem. There is more that will open your eyes wider.

Those protestors are strong groups of primarily Millennials and Gen Zers. Their support for Black Lives Matter is clear. They will not bow down any longer to the repressive governments run by the Republicans or the Democrats. They know that the two parties of different sides of the same coin. Both have the same end goal, but have different paths to get there. These young people, of the extreme far left, see the Democrat Party as being centrist, at best, but generally right of center and not representing them and their goals. In fact, calling them socialist or communist would gain their immediate agreement. Is this truly a bad thing?

I’ve had the opportunity to speak with a Gen Z ardent activist of the extreme left political faction. This individual shall remain anonymous for their own protection. I’ll call this person “Activist Z.” Activist Z explained the ideals and goals of the movement itself.

When we observe the current political landscape of both the right and left, we see the same old battle going on. While the ideas of how to move America along may see incremental change to our way of life, it’s not good enough according to Activist Z. Bringing on those changes at a faster rate is also too slow.

Societal Ailments

When Activist Z and the others in the movement look at what America should be, they start with societal fairness, known as equality. To their belief system, whatever is needed to sustain a healthy life for all comes with certain basics. Those basics being housing for all, healthcare for all, equal education in the K-12 schooling system, food and water to comfortably sustain life, and no overblown government or capitalist organization.

Homelessness

Now, I’ll be taking these one issue at a time, starting with housing for all. In the richest nation on Earth (so we are told) there are over 560,000 people who experience homelessness every night. Over 200,000 of the homeless spend each night unsheltered (living outdoors in places not meant for human habitation). Now, don’t just see numbers, see them. These are people, human beings and they have no place to call home, like the rest of us do. Activist Z states that this would not be the case in their views. But, it’s not just the homeless. We must look to the to those living in substandard housing. Substandard housing is defined as “any condition which exists to an extent that it endangers the life, limb, property, safety or welfare of the occupants or general public.” There are about six million homes in America that are substandard. So think hard and visualize people living in those homes.

Still with me? Yes, okay. Now, according to 247wallst.com there are over 17 million vacant homes in America in 2018. Remember those 560,000 plus homeless? They could fill those homes over 30 times. Those six million substandard homes? They could be replaced 2.83 times from the vacant homes.

Activist Z shows that we have more than enough decent homes to house all of the population of America. No one should be living on the streets or in substandard housing. I have to say Activist Z has a point.

Healthcare

Now we know, without any argument, that every person in the country can be provided healthcare. No insurance necessary either. The only reason there is not healthcare for all is politics. There were 30.4 million people with no health insurance in 2018, with millions more with inadequate health insurance. If there was a national healthcare system (including dental and vision care), without any reduction of the level of services provided, then couldn’t we expect Americans to be healthier overall? We won’t know until we tried, though I don’t hesitate to say that with the current government (Democratic or Republican) it won’t get implemented equally for all Americans.

Food Security

Every member of any society should never have to suffer food insecurity, but it happens every day all around the world. With the coronavirus ravaging America there are more than 54 million people facing food insecurity, a total that includes 18 million children.

Consider that the world’s food production is sufficient to feed 10 billion people. Why then do we have so many people in America facing food insecurity? From the same article linked to in this paragraph, globally 30% to 40% of our food production is wasted every year. There should be no hunger in America, or the rest of the world for that matter.

But, when we review the topic we find that over 13.6 million children receive free breakfast and lunch meals at school. Now, no one wants to see any child go hungry, at least I hope they don’t. That’s helps children receive nutritious meals every day, however there are still children in schools that have yet to participate in the federally subsidized breakfast and lunch program. Plus, millions of children and adults don’t get three meals a day. Many parents (and other adults) don’t have enough of a paycheck to cover all their living needs, so they all go without.

Can you imagine sending your children to bed without supper because there’s no money left to buy enough food? I can’t and luckily never had to. When you wrap your head around the food insecurity issue, you can see why food security is a right, not a privilege. Every man, woman, and child should have enough nutritious food to feed themselves every single day.

Education

We all know that it is important to have children receive an education. In 2019, 58.6 million children attended elementary and secondary schools. But, do all these children receive equal education opportunity in America? Sadly, they do not. When looking at why this inequality is we see that resources is not the problem, it’s how the resources are distributed, that was reported in an article from American University in Washington D.C. in 2018. Okay, so we need to demand the inequality gap be closed, something our elected local, state, and federal leaders have failed to do in decade after decade.

If we don’t fairly educate our children in elementary and secondary school education, we then handicap them for their future, either in college or the workforce. The high school graduation rate in 2016 was 84.1%, leaving the rest as dropouts or late graduation for whatever reason.

For all the graduates of high school there are many paths they can decide to follow, such as college, vocational-technical training, and internships in many fields of endeavor. Those who enrolled in college for the Fall Semester of 2019 stood at about 18.2 million students for all 2 year and 4 year colleges and universities. Now, we have to work out a path choice for all the high school dropouts.

High school dropouts have difficulty obtaining high skilled employment. So, we find them flipping hamburgers at a fast food joint, or working in a field focused on manual labor, such as landscaping. It’s no hard to learn how to mow grass, edge lawns, and trim bushes. Most people can be taught these skills fairly fast, but the level of pay won’t come close to what college graduates make.

How do I know this? It’s because I dropped out of high school and worked menial jobs with poor pay. You look for a way out, but without a high school diploma you’re pretty much limited to a low wage “career.”

The education system needs to be set to offer an equal quality education, to include four years of college or university education. Plus, it should be free. Education beyond a four year degree can be paid for by the well educated student, using their learned skills to enter the workforce if necessary to pay for the advanced educational degree. The system must work with struggling students in high schools to get these children to not drop out of school.

What’s Left to Do

I tell you that is a great deal left to do. I’ve barely scratched the surface. There are all types of issues that will have to be worked out in the America envisioned by Activist Z and the other far left radicals (those socialist or communists that haunt our sleep). They are ready to tear down and rebuild a new America where equality will truly exist in their thinking. So much to do, but there is a part of Generation Z ready to change the nation.

Conclusion

The United States of America has stood for 244 years. Look at the mess we made. The system was rigged from the start and year after year generations of Americans have left it better off when the torch is passed to the next generation.

The political landscape in 2020 looks dismal. We have a President, along with his cabal, pretty much doing anything he wants. Laws, morals, and ethics mean nothing to Donald Trump. He’s just interested in pleasing his personal whims and having his ego stroked by his cult of followers.

There have been peaceful revolutions that changed the structure of a nation, take the old Soviet Union’s collapse as an example. Yet, history teaches us that violence and force are needed to change a nation, like the French Revolution and our own Revolution. A change in the national structure of American may end up breaking up America in to multiple nations. If the change can be done peacefully, or if it takes violent overthrow, the extreme left of Gen Z are willing to use either method. We already have 244 years of failure, so maybe Gen Z has ideas that we should accept and try.

There is no guarantee of a tomorrow in life, guarantee of a tomorrow in a nation that you knew yesterday.

I asked in the title, What’s Ailing America? I can tell you what’s ailing America, America is ailing America and her people.

Until next time
